Okay, so I thought I’d better set some rules for myself so that I can’t be tempted to change them part way through if things are not going well!

The first thing to mention is that on “Antiues Road Trip” the experts get 5 days of antiques buying.

Anything they buy on Monday goes into an auction on Monday, the next days buys go into an auction the same day, etc.

Unfortunately I can’t do that on eBay since I might have to wait 7 days for an auction to end. I then have to wait for the item to arrive, and after that I need to relist it and wait another 7 days until my auction ends.

After that I need to wait to be paid before I can buy anything else!

Because of this it’s going to take me 15 weeks to achieve the same thing that it takes the “Antiques Road Trip” 5 days to achieve.

So:

Rule 1 is that the first part lasts for 15 weeks, and is split into 5 stages lasting 3 weeks each.

Rule 2 is that I start with £300, since waiting to get paid could take a lot longer via an online auction.

Rule 3 is that I can buy antiques so long as there is money in the kitty to buy them with. So if I’ve spent my £300 and those items are in auction – I can’t place bids on anything else until those items have sold and I’ve been paid.

Rule 4 is that all items have to be bought from eBay so that the price etc is verifiable, and they have to be sold on eBay again so that the sale can be verified also – except..

..in Rule 5 where up to 3 items from the first 5 stages can be sent to a major auction house (where they can be seen online) if they are something special that need that kind of exposure.

Rule 6 is that all costs have to be taken into account – eBay fees, Paypal fees, postage, etc are removed from the resale price to give a real profit value.

Rule 7 is that at the end of the 15 weeks of buying and selling I will buy 1 big (ie expensive) item that will be sold at auction in London, or alternatively may be sold on eBay if appropriate.
