The final item for round 3 is an antique walnut box that cost £33.25 + £9 postage, the auction details are below:
Antique Rosewood Writing Slope
April 13, 2010
As promised I’ve finally bought something that isn’t porcelain, and since I also love antique boxes and writing slopes I thought this was a good buy even though it needs some restoration.
It cost me £19.99 + £8.85 postage, the auction details are below:
Antique Derby Tureen
April 13, 2010
Although this is antique ceramics yet again, I just had to buy it!
It cost me £175 + £5 postage, the auction details are below:
Japanese Saki Cup
April 5, 2010
Okay, okay I know that I said I’d make sure that I’d buy some items other than ceramics, and I promise I will, but I just couldn’t pass up on the hum dinger of an antique. This is the only item bought for round 2, with the drinking mug being moved into round 2 as well.
Described by the seller as a “japanese saki cup” it also was described as having a crack to one side, a chip to the footrim, and it also has a chip to the top – so you probably think I’m as cracked as the cup to have paid £11.09 for it including the postage!
Why did I buy it? Well, I’ve added an image of the auction below and if you keep on reading you’ll find out why – but needless to say I’m quite excited about this one!
Bowl

Item no 6 is a rather unassumingly decribed “bowl”:

Caughley Mansfield Pattern Tea Caddy
March 25, 2010
Item number 5 in our first batch of antiques bought is this Caughley tea caddy:

Caughley Salopian Scallop Edged Plate
March 25, 2010
Item no 4 that I’ve bought in this first batch is a Caughley Plate in the Fisherman & Cormorant pattern:

Victorian Coffee Pot
March 25, 2010
This is item number 3 in my first batch of buys:

Drinking Mug c.1830 – 50
March 25, 2010
This is the 2nd item that I’ve bought in my first batch of purchases, a very nice bell shaped drinking mug that the vendor says is dating to c.1830-50.

Vintage 14 piece Coffee Set
March 25, 2010
This is the very first item that I’ve bought in my Antiques Hunt, so it’s probably best that I explain how I’m going to layout and explain my purchases.
The title that I’m going to give each antique that I’ve bought will be the same as the title that it had on eBay, but I will explain why I’ve bought each antique and what I think it actually is and could be worth.
I’m also going to add the total cost that I’ve paid, and a screenshot of the auction itself, along with a link to the finished auction. I’m adding the screenshot because eBay tend to take the details down after 3 months, so unless I include a record of the item, price, etc, then no one will be able to verify the price, etc after 3 months is up.
I’ll also add the final price as each item sells (or rather hopefully sells!), and how much profit or loss was made from each.
I aim to get items that have been bought back onto eBay to sell again as soon as possible, but there may be some delay – I have for example bought an item in my first batch from the US and it still hasn’t arrived 3 weeks later, so rather than wait any longer for it to arrive I’ll put it’s details here and then auction it as soon as it does arrive.
So without further ado, here is the very first item bought for the Antiques Hunt!
